TOLEDO -- It was a near-perfect Senior Night for the United soccer team as the combined girls team from Toledo/Winlock blanked Ocosta 5-0 in a SWW 1A League game here Monday.

It was the final home game for eight United seniors and they went out in style as the team picked up its seventh shutout of the season as they improved to 8-3 in league and 10-5 overall. United is battling Rock ON (Onalaska/Napavine) for second place in league. Rock ON is 8-2 in league, but plays league-leading Montesano tonight.

“It was a good night,” said United coach Horst Malunat. “All the seniors played well tonight and the younger kids played hard for them.”

It was just 1-0 at halftime as Brittany Hope connected 27 minutes in off an assist from Ashlee Coffey.

Blazers Fall on Sophomore Night

Green River was just too much as Centralia College dropped its last home match of the volleyball season 25-15, 25-7 and 25-22 here Friday night.

It was the final match in the Hub City for sophomores Lindsey Dorsey, Danette Kahle, Erin Heffernan and Vanessa Cooper.

The Blazers served 97 percent on the night, as a team, and Kahle had a team-high 13 digs. Cooper, Heffernan and Ashley Butcher each added 11 digs.

Butcher and Dorsey added six and five kills, respectively.

The Blazers (4-26 overall) finish up the season Wednesday at Highline Community College.

 

Lady Blazers Top Grays Harbor Again

ABERDEEN --Centralia College made it a clean sweep of Grays Harbor on the volleyball court with a three-game victory here Wednesday night.

The Blazers are 2-11 in league and the two wins came against the Chokers. Last night’s victory was 25-7, 25-19 and 25-17.

Lindsey Dorsey and Laura Keenan both had eight kills. Setter Ashley Dyal dished out 21 assists.

The Blazers had 31 kills as a team and 42 digs.

“The girls played real well tonight,” said Blazer coach Sarah Maiava. “We had good teamwork all night and good focus. It was a real good night for us.”

Centralia hosts Green River Friday in its Sophomore Night.

 

Top 2B Spikers Start District Play Tonight

The Districte IV Class 2B Volleyball Tournament tips off a three-night run at Napavine High School tonight.

The top four teams in the 12-team tournament will advance to the state tournament Nov. 13-14 in Yakima.

Tonight the four local teams in the tournament are all in action. Pe Ell meets Raymond while Napavine battles on Vancouver Christian at 6 p.m. followed by Mossyrock taking on Northwest Christian and Adna meeting Naselle.

Wahkiakum won a coin flip with Adna and Napavine for second place and has a bye into Wednesday’s play. The tourney ends Friday (see schedule in Scoreboard, S4).

OAKVILLE -- Anthony Pender threw for 274 yards Saturday as Oakville stomped Easton-Thorp 70-22 in Pacific B League eight-man football action.
